Holiday Decorations in Medina, NY

While driving through Western New York I stopped in Medina.

I love seeing towns decorated for the holidays. See the wreaths in the windows?

Who knew you could visit the North Pole while in Medina, NY?

Cabot Celebrates Easter in Arkansas

It’s been pretty rainy here in Arkansas but I managed to get in some Easter sunshine by checking out the egg collection on the mantle!

This picture has a Polish Palm in it that my hostess got from the Polish Arts Center in MI. They do not have palm trees in Poland, obviously, so certain areas make their own by bundling together brightly colored and elaborate dried flowers, wheat and grasses!

Here I am with a bowl of Pisanki. Pisanki are Polish Easter eggs. Aren't they beautiful?

My friend, Mad, and I colored our own Easter eggs.

I think we did a great job!

This was our Easter morning meal – I love the Easter butter lamb. Isn't he cute? The baranek wielkanocny is a traditional addition to the Polish Easter table. Amelia tells me you can find them everywhere in Western NY...but here in Arkansas my hostess had to make her own using a mold!

I really enjoyed my first Easter. I'm so thankful I got to share it with my new friends.

A Walk Around NYC at Christmastime

Cabot visited New York City at Christmastime.
Cabot decided to join thousands of other tourists and walk down Fifth Avenue looking at the Christmas decorations.

He said hello to the lions in front of the Public Library but they didn't say hello back.

Look at all the people!

Cabot went to Grand Central Station, now beautifully restored. (That's the Chrysler Building in the background).

Did you know there were rats on the entrance of the Graybar Building & Grand Central on Lexington Avenue? They are running up ships ropes and the cone shape things were traditionally put on the ropes to block them. We were never able to find out why there are rats on that entrance!

We walked down Fifth Avenue to see the famous tree at Rockefeller Center.

There was a huge line of tourists waiting to skate at the skating rink. Silly tourists--there is free skating behind the Public Library in Bryant Park! Rockefeller Center is expensive!

Across from Rockefeller Center is St Patrick's Cathedral.

All the fancy stores were beautifully decorated. This is Cartiers.

All the women were getting their pictures taken in front of Tiffany's, and Cabot figured why not.

This is the Unicef Star of Peace at Fifth Avenue & 59th Street. It looks prettier at night lit up.

Cabot waves hello to the Plaza Hotel which isn't a hotel any more but condominiums. It's probably not called the Plaza Hotel any more either.

New Year's Eve in NYC!

After my time in the tropics I headed back to the US in time for a major snow storm in New York City. I'll share some of those photos soon, but today is New Year's Eve and I had to show you this special day in this special place!

It is New Year's Eve and by 3:30 in the afternoon, all traffic had been blocked from Times Square and there were already huge crowds milling around.

The spire on the building in the middle is where the famous ball drops, but no one could see it yet. These crazy people are prepared to stand where they are for 9 hours to watch it fall at midnight!!

It is all we could do to fight our way to the subway.
So on that note, Cabot wishes everyone a very happy new year!
